~Floor & Giel from Holland~
"This summer we visited the Phillipines. We wanted to do
something 'different' and dicided to go cycling around some
of the islands.
We rented our bikes by Bugoybikers in Cebu. This is probably
the only place in the Phillipines where you can rent
good bikes. Also Jens and
Melanie are very helpfull and they gave us lots
of information and advices for our cyclingtrip. The
book 'Cycling the Phillippines' Jens wrote,
is a must!!
We started in Cebu and took the ferry to Bohol. There
we went on to the Nuts Huts, the place to be on Bohol! After
that we cycled up to the Chocolate Hills and further
down to Jagna. In Jagna we took the ferry to Camiguin. This
island is a paradise for bikers! Everywere children running
out of their houses and shouted 'Hi Friend' to us.
We felt so welcome. We can not think of a better way
to explore the real Philippines. The most beautiful are
the people we have met along the road. Everybody was
so friendly and it was very easy to get in touch
with the Philippinos. Never felt so save and comfortable
in an Asian country as here. It is also very easy to do
by yourself. The roads are good and if you get hungry
or thirsty go to a Sari-Sari store for a cup of noodles/coke
or just some cookies. There are enough places to
sleep on your way and if you are tired you can always jump
on a jeepney or bus (bike on top). After 8 days
of cycling along rice paddies,
waterfalls (great for a refreshing dip!!), jungle, small
villages, beautiful people, funny tarsiers, colourfull
markets and clear blue oceans we
had to returned the bikes in Cebu. After that we went on
travelling the 'normal way' but often we really missed
the freedom of our bikes!
Our cyclingtrip on Bohol and Camiguin was defenitly our
best and most special experience in the Philippines!"
