Camiguin, due to its rugged, hilly terrain is a perfect place for biking. The best way of getting an impression is biking around the island (64 km). The road is almost 100% asphalt, except of a small strech of 2 km between Bonbon and Catarman. The views over the sea and the volcanoes are terrific and breathtaking.
Assuming you start in Mambajao, the capital of Camiguin which is a perfect place as a base for your tours. If you are going south you will next bump into Benoni. It the entry point coming from Mindanao. It has a nice artificial lagoon and a good place to eat fresh fish. Guinsiliban further south, offers also ferry service to Mindanao. If you reach Catarman then you have already made 2/3 of the island. Catarman hosts the famous and really refreshing Cold Springs. If you continue, you will reach Bonbon. Located at the foot of the Old Vulcano it is a perfect place to start your hike to the Stations of the cross. Besides the “Build on fire” Tour there are literally HUNDREDS of foot paths and trails that criss-cross the island and different villages. Don’t be afraid to follow your instincts – you can always ask for help. A good address for info is Johnny’s Dive ‘n’ Fun at Secret Cove Resort to get an orientation and check out the wall map with numerous trail ideas or hook up with COBRA (Camiguin Off-Road Bike Riders Associaton) which go every Saturday for a ride. |
